You Shall Not Enter My Kingdom Unless You are Like the Little Child
An Alterative Look into Neurodevelopment
These were not the literal words that Jesus spoke about in Matthew 18:3 but I think about this verse a lot when I am with my infants and toddlers. I think about how innocent and simple-minded children can be. Many of my clients either have a delay or disability which makes them even more precious in my eyes. When I head into the home of a family, sometimes I will say a prayer to myself asking God to help the session go well and for the family to have an open mind to my feedback and strategies. I work with amazing families who are engaged and really just want the best for their child(ren). I think often about Jesus’ discipleship and how he was often with the children and loved to use stories as a way to tell a certain perspective. We as adults, learn a lot from our sons and daughters but most importantly than what they say or share with us is their introspective minds. As mentioned in one of my posts, children do not have executive functions. They do not think and reason as their brains are not fully developed. However, it is through this lack of brain development and function that we often see their ever-so-innocent minds flourish. Next time you are with a child, try to look into their minds and develop the same philosophy as them. It will make your life so much easier and stress-free. I wonder if Jesus wants us to be like children so that we do not complicate our lives. He wants us to live in the present day; not to worry about anything, but rather look to Him and seek His help.
